LogicaCMG continues to invest in DWBI consultantsProfessionalisation programme
For the third time, DNV Academy – CIBIT has started an intensive professionalisation programme including CBIP exams for senior DWBI consultants from LogicaCMG. In the following interview with Henk van Roekel, Competence Manager at LogicaCMG, we discuss the need for and (added) value of the programme and his experiences of the collaboration so far.
|
What kind of training programme are we talking about?
DNV – CIBIT has designed an intensive, customised training programme specifically for our senior DWBI consultants, taking due note of the current state of available knowledge in our organisation. The programme covers both Data Warehousing (DW) and Business Intelligence (BI) topics. In addition, the programme offers prep sessions and reading guides to help our consultants prepare for the CBIP exams.
What are LogicaCMG's current DWBI services and what is your role?
LogicaCMG's Competence Centre for Business
Henk van Roekel | Intelligence (BI) and Enterprise Information Management (EIM) consists of approximately 230 consultants whose primary task is to offer advice, support and practical assistance to our customers on DWBI initiatives. My role as Competence Manager is to provide expert direction to this competence centre. This has, among others, resulted in the practical guide 'Business Intelligence Framework'. I am also recognised as a Certified Business Intelligence Professional and active as guest teacher for DNV Academy – CIBIT.
What was the reason behind this training need?
Several years ago, we decided that, apart from secondment, we would like to offer more services on the basis of result-based accountability, for instance in the form of projects and partnerships. In order to act as a valuable discussion partner for our customers, it was considered important for our mostly specialised consultants to develop a broader view of the field. Our senior consultants themselves also expressed their need for support in the form of tool-independent training, in addition to specialised tool training.
Why have you chosen DNV Academy – CIBIT?
Outside knowledge and experience were very welcome and we were also specifically looking for a training company with tool-independent training services. Acting on our already positive impression of DNV Academy – CIBIT's training services in the DWBI field, our choice of DNV Academy – CIBIT was a logical next step.
What are your reasons for investing in the Certified Business Intelligence Professional certification?
We have found that the demand for (CBIP) certification is clearly growing in the IT sector. Such certification provides employees with an additional 'quality stamp'. Another advantage of (CBIP) certification is that employees have to undertake various actions in order to remain certified. In this way, employees are encouraged to keep their subject knowledge up to date. Offering the possibility of training for certification also helps to retain and recruit talented employees as it enhances our attractiveness as an employer.
What are the experiences so far?
The experiences are definitely positive. Initially, the alignment of the training programme with the CBIP exams and, for instance, the support provided by reading guides needed some extra attention. In general, however, participants were very satisfied. An important positive side effect of the programme is that the sharing of knowledge among consultants is encouraged much more intensively than in the ordinary work situation. The use of various assignments related to participants' practical work situation proved particularly valuable in this respect.
Has the programme also contributed to the achievement of the previously defined goals?
Our aim, as said before, was to offer a larger percentage of our services to the market on the basis of result-based accountabilility. We are currently offering services with a ratio of 50% for secondment and 50% for result-based accountability. Although this change cannot be attributed to the training programme alone, it has certainly been positively influenced by it. Some of the participants, for instance, have definitely gained greater 'weight' and skills as discussion partners for our customers.
What are your plans for the next years?
Obviously, we would like to further realise our ambition as thought leader in the BI and EIM field. This includes a strong growth ambition for the years to come.
With currently about 200 certified professionals in the Netherlands, how is your experience of the effects of CBIP certification?
At present, only few customers explicitly demand CBIP certification. Obviously, we do inform our customers about our ongoing investment in CBIP certification and we have found that customers clearly regard it as a point in our favour. It is my expectation that customers will increasingly demand certification for certain roles in the future. |
